An ex-commander demoted to a petty officer leading a small fleet of minelayers to trap the seas with naval mines.
His horrible addictions helped him cope through his military duties especially when he had to personally neutralize people by hand (technology wasn’t advanced back then so almost everything had to be manual) but he dissociated and numbed so hard he couldn’t recognize himself anymore.
Biography
Prewar
Used to live in the suburbs with his mum and dad. He caught a red fox that got stuck in the picket fence and decided to keep it (despite people including his parents telling him to let it go because “it’s a rabid animal”)
his name is Dashy say hi
He used to “work” as a mailman to get money. Prewar msp!cmandy would sneak out of school or home to deliver mail and just go missing for a couple of days ← delivering mail typically takes an hour if it’s local or 2 months if it’s overseas. And yes! He loves sailing (he got it from his father bringing him to his work for a couple days)
He joined the army by 18 — initially he planned it to be much more early but he had to grind money for a moment — and went to build his rank as high as he could go. (he didnt want to be on the lower ranks)
This military journey hasn’t been nice to him however and has led him to drink or smoke more to cope from the pressure it has been placed upon him and the numerous “surprises” they bring.
I don’t know if they’ve been involved in smaller conflicts, I think he should be. Maybe he did go to smaller conflicts player vs player sort of things like border control etc.
First War
He is the one that proposed the idea to transform tile people into weapons so he sends out troops to neutralize enemy soldiers and invades homes to take tile people to concentration camps, taking away their autonomy. They were looking specifically for people with the bomb syndrome, which they would beat them to neutralize them and store them into shells of mines that can be used in battlefields. Those who do not fit the description will be transferred to a different site to drop them into the pit.
However, their resources start to run dry but he wants to push through until victory is in sight. He was one determined commander but. When handling one of the bombs, he found out it was faulty in the worst way possible: it exploded him. He’s eventually rushed to the medical bay to recover before being taken to a proper hospital; he had to be removed from the service for a while. The explosion scarred his face and gave him brain damage but he was still alive, just in a coma. The operations continued to run under his absence from his previous commands and his plan of action until they couldn't anymore from the lack of supplies.
What follows is no longer in his hands, a treaty has been signed whilst he was in a short coma.
Post-first war
After recovery he was sent to rehab but he escaped multiple times ig
Big time skip
When the news that another war is incoming, it slowly spreads to several news coverage. He had this, urge or feel obliged to come back to the military again to prove he can still do better than previous.
Second war
He was demoted to a petty officer and reassigned to a smaller squad of minelayers. A jab to his pride when he can no longer be an active participant of war but a passive one, but he still wanted to prove himself.
After departure, the team did their duties of setting naval mines in the sea which block trades and supposedly damage enemy ships. However, the main ship msp!cmandy is out of reach for other navigation systems as he enters a supposedly familiar route that had suddenly changed. Paranormal activity has completely skewed his navigation and made him lost.
He still lay mines around, just. Horribly lost
I think he slowly develops hysteria from seeing constant sea wirh no land on sight and becomes increasingly erratic when things slowly doesnt make sense him and cant tell whats real and whats fake
